Do you think teen abstinence is due to fear of STDs or the Bristol Palin example?

Question by nanny: Do you think teen abstinence is due to fear of STDs or the Bristol Palin example?
If there were teenagers in my house they would have heard about Bristol morning, noon and night. She was a world wide example of an unwed high schooler who gave up her chance to go to college for a high school dropout. Then their craziness just kept going down hill. The kids would have learned a lot.

During the trial by fire of her vice-presidential campaign, Sarah Palin’s best answer as to her foreign policy credentials was “They’re our next-door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.” In Tina Fey’s mouth on SNL, it became “I can see Russia from my house.” Consider this quote on this picture an answer to Ms Fey.

Sarah Palin does NOT Understand “Special Children”!

Sarah Palin does NOT Understand “Special Children”!

After tonight’s final debate between Obama and McCain, I could not stand it anymore to hear cloying praise for Sarah Palin, (McCain’s Vice-Presidential running mate) as "understanding special children". GIve me a break, her "special needs" child is only 6 months old, most of these months spent without the direct care of his mother because she is off on her political crusade.

This is one of the worst examples of "morality" I have ever seen, to sacrifice the needs of your child for a higher purpose of political gain in a pursuit for office. I’ve had two previous political compositions that question the new "FAMILY VALUES" that the Republicans now espouse. Since the Republicans co-opted the term "family values", we now see just how malleable this rallying term is: just having a "challenge" in your family is enough to identify you as "understanding"???

Points about the health care crisis in America:

1. That ,000 credit McCain proposes for a family towards purchasing health insurance assumes the family is wealthy enough to have the other ,000 (average health insurance plan for a family) to SPEND on health insurance.

2. Oh, does the family have a parent employed in a company that still provides a health insurance plan?

3. The full ,000 health plan covered by an employer that provides it is TAXABLE income. Thus, if your salary is ,000 a year gross pay, you will now be taxed on ,000 gross pay.

4. The McCain plan will do more to guarantee that fewer American companies will provide health insurance coverage.

5. The folks that do not NOW work for an employer that provides a health insurance plan are still SOL (sorry outta luck).

6. The idea that a family can just go out and find private insurance when a family has a family member who has a "pre-existing condition" is ludicrous. In the 12 years my family had NO health insurance because NO private insurer would cover us, my family had to stay at or below Poverty Level in order that my one son could have Medicaid.

7. The average plan in the few states that have health insurance for those with "pre-existing conditions" costs currently 0 to ,000 per month. So, how many families in this situation have that money to spend on health insurance?

8. That point about "taking your health plan with you" when you change jobs or change states when you move? Sure you can do this, only your premium skyrockets.

And finally, to my final frustration over the "sympathy" given to the Palin family for their baby with Down Syndrome: every educator and medical professional knows that the best chance for a positive future for a child born with a disability depends on the early years. There is no substitute for the care and nurturing a parent gives to this child from the start. Mrs. Palin has abandoned her five children in the pursuit of political ambition and is even using her family situation as a positive slant on her ability to understand the American people. Let me tell you I for one DO NOT ACCEPT this sick praise for Sarah Palin. It was offered tonight by both Obama and McCain and it is the last straw for me.

BTW, let’s see how well Palin’s family is doing in the next years when she is out of office, out of her current insurance coverage, and the cute baby has more obvious needs and challenges. This message has been brought to you by a mother of a child who still averages about ,000 per month for medical expenses after 29 years. Let the politicians ask ME to advise them on health care coverage and on the need for early childhood education and what needs to be fixed in American public schools. My son graduated from high school with a diploma because of the advocacy and hard work of he, his parents and his brothers. And it was very hard work, at great, great personal sacrifice to us all.

Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y., is questioned by the media near his home in the Queens borough of New York, Saturday, June 11, 2011. ………………………………………….

WASHINGTON – The second-ranking House Democrat on Sunday joined the party leadership in urging Rep. Anthony Weiner to quit because of his sexting scandal, a request the New York lawmaker has sidestepped in favor of a temporary leave of absence.

The Republican Party chairman criticized Democratic leaders for not taking a more forceful stand earlier on the affair, which has overshadowed much of the legislative business on Capitol Hill over the past week.

Weiner has acknowledged exchanging messages and photos, ranging from sexually suggestive to explicit, with several women online. The latest to surface appeared on the gossip website TMZ.

The photos posted Sunday were purportedly taken in the House members’ gym and show a shirtless Weiner with a towel around his waist and his hand on his crotch. TMZ said the photos were sent online to at least one woman.

Rep. Steny Hoyer of Maryland, the No. 2 House Democrat, spoke of Weiner’s "bizarre and unacceptable behavior" in sending inappropriate pictures of himself to young women. Hoyer said it would be "extraordinarily difficult" for Weiner to continue to represent his constituents effectively.

[ For complete coverage of politics and policy, go to Yahoo! Politics ]

In New York, foes and supporters of Weiner confronted each other.

"He’s not fit to be our congressman," said Jim Scott, 61, one of about two dozen constituents who rallied in front of Weiner’s office in the Kew Gardens section of Queens. "People are sick of him, especially his attitude."

Half a dozen Weiner supporters gathered a few yards away. College student Olivia Lurrie, 18, said Weiner was a good leader who made a mistake.

Weiner announced Saturday that he was entering professional treatment at an undisclosed location and wanted a leave of absence from Congress. A statement from an aide did not say where he would receive treatment or what type was involved.

That announcement came right after House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi of California and Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the national party head, said Weiner must go.

Weiner said at news conference last Monday that he had lied in previously saying that he had not sent any photos. Pelosi immediately called for an ethics committee investigation. But it was not until the weekend that leaders said he should step down.

Hoyer said the ethics committee process to decide if Weiner had committed an expellable offense would take time and "I really don’t know if we have that time." He said he didn’t see how Weiner could stay in office.

Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., said Weiner should resign. "We’ve got important work to do and this is a ridiculous distraction," he said in an appearance with Hoyer on "Face the Nation" on CBS.

On NBC’s "Meet the Press," Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus criticized Pelosi and other Democrats for not acting sooner.

"It seemed to me that for the first 10 days in this circus … the only job that Nancy Pelosi was interested in saving was Anthony Weiner’s," he said.

That drew a sharp retort from Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., who accused Republicans of a double standard.

She said that Republican leaders didn’t call for the resignation of Sen. David Vitter, R-La., when he got caught up in a prostitution scandal, and that Priebus had not publicly sought the resignation of former Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., who stepped down this year over an affair with a staffer’s wife.

Wasserman Schultz said party officials initially gave Weiner "some breathing room" to reach the conclusion that he needed to step down on his own, but decided to toughen their stance Saturday after it became apparent he would not do so.

David B. Cohen, a political science professor at the University of Akron, said Sunday: "Had Anthony Weiner not been a rising star in the party and such a hero to progressives, he would have already been gone. But the fact that he is a national figure that has a national base of support bought him some time."

A leave of absence may be Weiner’s only chance to rehabilitate his career, Cohen said. "Remorse isn’t going to cut it in this case. Buy some time, and some time out of the public spotlight."

WASHINGTON DC — Sarah Palin took to the airwaves to make it official,
"I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I can be on the right path not as a candidate for president at this time."

After months of speculation, the former Alaska Governor announced in a radio interview and on her Facebook page that she will not be jumping in the GOP race.

Palin spent the summer hinting she might run, even criss-crossing the country on what looked like a campaign bus.

But in the end the former Vice Presidential nominee said family comes first. "The consideration of what candidacy does to or for a family that weighed heavily"

Her decision comes a day after New Jersey Governor Chris Christie decided not to run and leaves the GOP field largely set.

A CBS News New York Times poll shows Mitt Romney and Herman Cain tied for the lead with Rick Perry slipping to third.

But just because Palin is not running for office, does not mean you wont see her on the campaign trail. She plans to use her strong Tea Party backing to help elect other conservatives to congress and the White House.

"Not being a candidate, you’re unshackled and you’re allowed to be even more active and I look forward to coordinating the strategies that will assist in replacing our president," said Palin.

She may have answered one big question, but now Palin will have to decide who she will endorse.

Shortly after her announcement, Republican presidential hopefuls Rick Perry and Michele Bachmann both released statements calling Palin a good friend and a strong voice for the conservative movement.
