Question by Rhys Benneyworth: is an employer allowed to stop my payment just because i didnt work my full notice period?
My employment for my previous employer was due to terminate on 19/09/11 but i walked out on 12/09/11, 7 days before my notice period was up. Does this in any way give the employer any right to freeze or stop my payment for owed hours/travel/holidays? (UK answers only please).

Well, you have shown your employer disrespect (aside from breaching the terms of your contract) so he probably feels justified in now allowing you to sue him for what you are allegedly owed.
Basically, you can’t expect to kick someone and not expect to be kicked back.

With people having their homes repossessed rental properties are the only option, so this market is stable.

******************************************
I’ve been to Grand Central Station twice before in the past couple of years to take photos (click here and here to see the Flickr sets) … so why go back again? The answer is simple: I had a dentist appointment a few days ago, and the dentist’s office is about two blocks away from Grand Central. I was curious to see if New York’s main train station was more crowded during the Christmas season, or perhaps had a different atmosphere than I had seen during my previous two visits in July 2008 and June 2009.
I didn’t have much time, but I thought I could spare an hour; and if you look closely, you’ll see that the first photo in this set was taken at approximately 12:15 PM, and the final one was at 1:20 PM. During that brief period, I took a total of 360 photos, which works out to approximately one photo every 10 seconds. It’s not quite as crazy as it sounds, because I often shoot three or four shots in quick succession, if I’m focusing on people in motion, or people’s facial expressions. But at the same time, I have to admit that it’s not my style to sit quietly in a corner somewhere, waiting for the one, single "perfect" photo-op to present itself in front of my camera.
Of course, the reason I can afford to do this is that digital photographs are essentially "free"; one memory card on my DSLR camera can hold 10 images, or 100, or even 500. I typically expect to delete 90% of the images I take; in this case, I was a little less critical, and ended up with 40 "keepers" out of the 360 initial images.
As for the images themselves: well, the lighting was different in winter, even though I arrived at approximately the same time of day as with the previous two summertime visits. And I was shooting with a Nikon D700 instead of a D300, so I was able to use a higher ISO setting of 6400 without suffering too much noise in the resulting images…
But mostly, it was the people — and their style and clothing and behavior — that were different. These photos were all taken two days before Christmas, so there were large groups of people (as well as a couple of soldiers) moving quickly from the ticket booth to the trains, hurrying to arrive home for the holidays. There were also numerous tourists, and there seemed to be far more cameras and cellphones than I had seen before. Also, there was an animated "light show" playing all across the ceiling of Grand Central at various intervals; consequently, you’ll see several shots of people staring straight up at the ceiling, with a look of wonder and amazement on their faces…
No doubt you’ll see other differences, too, if you’re curious. I suggest that you use the slide-show feature of Flickr to step through these images quickly; and then use the slide-show feature to step through the other two sets, here and here so you can see the differences for yourself.
Meanwhile, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year … and stay tuned for another visit to Grand Central, sometime in the future…

President Franklin D. Roosevelt would not depart on a (train) trip on the 13th," said Thomas Fernsler, a University of Delaware mathematician who has studied the number enough to earn the moniker "Dr. 13." / AP

It’s a bad year for people who suffer from paraskevidekatriaphobia — the fear of Friday the 13th.
Why? There are three this year, instead of the usual two. There was one in 2011.
That’s not all. For the first time since 1984, those three Friday the 13ths — Jan. 13, April 13 and July 13 — are exactly 13 weeks apart.
Three Friday the 13ths happen every few years. The last was in 2009, and the next is 2015. What’s special about 2012 — and what won’t occur again until 2040 — is that this is happening during a leap year, says Tom Fernsler, a University of Delaware math professor who sometimes goes by the name Dr. 13.
It’s hard not to feel something about Friday the 13th, Fernsler says. "I find that 95% of people in the world are superstitious about something, and the other 5% are liars," he said.
The number 13 and Friday are recurring presences in mythological, spiritual and religious tradition. In Christianity, 13 people attended the Last Supper before Judas’ betrayal and Jesus’ death on a Friday. A Norse myth warns of dire consequences for dining in groups of 13. Friday the 13th was the date the medieval Knights Templar were imprisoned. And, though not as historic, rapper Tupac Shakur died on Friday, Sept. 13, 1996, after being gunned down Sept. 7.
For many pagans, 13 is a lucky number, because it corresponds with the number of full moons each year, says Ivo Dominguez Jr., owner of Bell, Book & Candle, a pagan and occult book and gift shop in Dover, Del.
While Friday the 13th can feel special, it isn’t. In a 400-year period, the 13th falls on a Friday more than any other day: 688 times, Fernsler says.
Fernsler has made it a hobby to find dates and events associated with the number 13, as well as Friday the 13th. The day has hosted some famous births, such as Fidel Castro and Butch Cassidy.
Dominguez argues Friday the 13th fears are "self-fulfilling prophecy," adding there’s a "strong power in people convincing themselves something unlucky will happen."

This Friday, fast food chain Wendy’s is running a promotional event for their “Baconator” line of sandwiches. The restaurant is finally adding another member to the family: The “Son of Baconator."
Because of the original sandwich’s popularity, Wendy’s has decided to bring the latest iteration across the nation with the Ultimate Baconator Challenge. The tour will make over 20 stops to see if the new sandwich can garner the same praise as the pioneer.
One of the many stops will be to Downtown Tallahassee’s Kleman Plaza, this Friday, Sept. 21, where the Ultimate Baconator Challenge tour will serve free "Son of Baconator" cheeseburgers from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. while supplies last.
“I come from the Ron Swanson school of dieting, so the more bacon I can get my hands on, absolutely the better,” FSU graduate student Zach Bartlett said.
While at the event, Wendy’s will also give away a free Wendy’s Frosty to accompany the burger. Wendy’s has long been a staple of the college community because of the affordable taste they provide with every sandwich. The "Son of Baconator" is no different.
“It just sounds so good, because of the bacon, and then to go with the burger, which is great because we all know Wendy’s makes their burgers with 100 percent real beef,” FSU senior Marlene Rau said.
There’s no better way to start off a monumental football weekend than with free food, and Wendy’s has it covered.
